ABOUT
Held on the heels of the 45th Presidential Inaugural, Tomorrow Will Still Be Ours presented three weeks of performances and public conversations with activists, artists, scholars, and faith leaders on the future of black activism, religious activism, and environmental activism at a time of sweeping political change.
CURATORIAL STATEMENT
What can longstanding protest movements teach us about navigating America’s new political landscape? Black activism has played a historic role in driving social change and it still cuts a critical path for activism today. Given the uprising in Baltimore, police shootings in Dallas, and the discussion of stop-and-frisk as a national policing policy, what do black activists envision for tomorrow? Religious activism has also been an essential force in the fight for justice, and it is called upon today in the face of Federal threats against Muslim Americans. What is our moral response when freedom of religion is no longer guaranteed? The environmental movement has its own deep history of organizing, evolving now to include environmental justice in American cities. What can it teach us about spurring people to collective action? What steps should we take when political leaders dismiss the science of climate catastrophe and clean water is scarcely available to Black and Brown communities nationwide?
